Seiryu-ji Temple

Description of this spot

The Dainichi Buddha at Seiryu Temple is the largest bronze Buddha in Japan. Beautiful structures have been built, such as the fourth largest five-storied pagoda in Japan, a main temple hall made entirely from cypress, and a vermillion-lacquered hall with an enshrined statue of Kobo Daishi (an Aomori branch temple of Mt. Koya). The treasures in the main temple hall are a must-see: a large image of “the descent of Amida and the Heavenly Multitude” (Amida Shoju Raigo), and the statue of “Amida looking back”. The traditional vegetarian cuisine of Buddhist monks is served here (booking required).
