Description of this spot
The Sannai Maruyama site is a famous historic ruin that has been known since the Edo period. In 1992, ruins were discovered of a large settlement dating from the early to mid Jomon period (c. 5500 to 4000 BCE). In November 2000 it was designated as a special national historic landmark. In the adjoining Jomon period recreation hall there is an exhibition of excavated archaeological remains, and an experiential learning corner.
