Hachiko Statue

Description of this spot

Hachi was an Akita breed of dog who kept waiting at Shibuya Station for his owner to come home from work. A bronze statue representing Hachi as “The Faithful Dog Hachiko” has been built in front of Shibuya Station, and is a symbolic meeting spot in Shibuya. Hachi was male dog born in 1923 in Akita Prefecture and was owned by Hidesaburo Ueno, a professor at Tokyo Imperial University. The way that Hachi kept waiting for his owner outside Shibuya Station after his owner’s sudden death became a beautifully moving story.
