Description of this tour

For twelve centuries, Koyasan has been a sacred mountain where Kobo Daishi Kukai’s teachings
Live on to this day. Kukai born in 774 is a high priest who established Shingon Buddhism.
Shingon Buddhism is esoteric Buddhism also called Mikkyo.
In this tour, we will visit Okunoin, a cemetery and the holy area that surrounds Kobo Daishi Kukai’s sacred Mausoleum.
Nestled in the woods with towering cedar trees, this cemetery contains more than 200,000
gravestones and monuments that make a unique setting for the background of 1.9 kilometer
approach to Kobo Daishi Kukai’s Mausoleum.
