Enjoy our tour where you first get a great view of the world heritage Shuri Castle of Okinawa from the sky, and then actually walk around.
Okinawa has an independent state; and even though Okinawa has prospered as the Ryukyu Kingdom, it has a history of ups and downs.
On this tour, we will introduce you to to the history of Ryukyu and culture, related to Okinawa's world heritage.
A local guide will tell you everything about Okinawa's history, and you´ll be able to create unique WOW moments.

Tamaudun

The Tamaudun, which was built in 1501 by King Sho Shin to bury his father King Shoen there, is the mausoleum where all the recessive kings of the second Sho dynasty of Ryukyu are buried.
The Tamaudun was seriously damaged during the Battle of Okinawa during World War 2, but the last king´s (King Sho Tai) approximate great grandchild, Mister Sho Hiroshi, used his private funds to repair the building in 1974, which took over three years. Thanks to him the Tamaudun almost looked like new.

Sonohyanutaki Stone Gate

The stone gate between Shureimon Gate and Kankaimon Gate is called Sonohyanutaki Stone Gate. The gate has an eave and looks like it is made of wood, but if you get closer you will see that it is actually built of Ryukyu limestone.
The king prayed herefor savety when he left for travel.
The Sonohyanutaki Stone Gate is shaped like a gate but it is actually no gate for people to pass, but meant to be a one for gods (gate of worship).
It was originally built by Taketomijima no Nishitou in 1519, but later destroyed in a battle.The current one is a replica.
In 2000 the gate was registered as a World Heritage.

Shuri castle was culturally influenced by China, Japan and Southeast Asia and goods like lacquer ware, Dyeing and Weaving, pottery, and music found their way through trade into the castle and helped to create Ryukyu´s unique culture.

The property has around 42,123 square meters, counting only the surface of the buildings makes around 645 square meters.
In 1941, Shikinaen was nominated as one of the most beautiful places in Japan.
It was destroyed in the Battle of Okinawa and the restoration works which began in 1975 are still going on.
In 2000, Shikinaen was specially selected as one of the most beautiful places in Japan and became in the same year on the 2nd December registered as World Heritage.
