The huge statue of Buddha is one of the most impressive works by ancient Japan, Originally created in the eighth century, both the large statue and the larger wood structure that houses it is an experience you will always remember. Kiyomi explained the history of the statue, the symbolism of the various architectural aspects of the grounds, as well as the historical events in that location that subsequently occurred. Kiyomi also guides us to another temple which included the February House, which was close by, where fire rituals are performed each winter. From the side of the mountain where the temple is located, we enjoyed a beautiful view of Nara. A great finale to a full afternoon of touring.
